The Schneider Family Book Award is given by the American Library Association to recognize authors and illustrators for excellence in portraying the disability experience in youth literature. It has categories for children's books, middle grade books, and young adult literature, and has been awarded annually since 2004. The award was founded by Dr. Katherine Schneider, the first blind student to graduate from the Kalamazoo Public School system.
